When I was twelve-years-old, I remember going to a pre-season exhibition game between the White Sox and Reds at the old Bush Stadium of the Indianapolis Indians AAA club in early April, 1962. I had never heard of Bob at that point. But he hit two home runs that day, and I later obtained autographs of several of the Sox players. Great memories for a young fan. My favorite player at the time was Al Smith who I think graduated from Douglass H.S. in Webster Groves.

Bob thrilled me as a twelve-year-old as I watched him hit at least two home runs at the old Indianapolis Indians ball park when he was with the White Sox in an exhibition game against the Cincy Reds in April, 1962.

I knew Bob - our whole family did - but we then called him "Shrimp" - when we were both pre-teens playing ball in a south side YMCA league. He was a couple of years younger, and smaller, but good enough to start when I wasn't. A quick and snappy shortstop and 3rd baseman. Also knew his mom and dad and vice versa.
Lost touch sometime in there, but glad to see he made it to the big leagues and had a good life. A happy guy. Sorry to hear of his departure and that we never re-connected. Take care Shrimp.

I worked with Bob at Chrysler. He was such a fun-loving, kind person. I loved hearing his stories. I always told him he should write a book. Rest in peace, Bob.
