Although it was a long time ago during our high school days, I've never forgotten what a great friend you are to everyone you meet. May God be with your family through their devastating loss. I am a better person for having known you. I'll always remember you smiling on that baseball field! RIP Jay, or as I knew you in high school "Jamie".

Hello Mr.Davis, remember me, it's Roosevelt Cotton? I will never forget you or your kindness; thanks for helping me get a foot in the door with the STLMSBL. I'm a little teary and in shock because I just saw you barely even a month ago when I congratulated you and your team for this past 1st place season. I'm proud to have had the chance to meet and play with you. I never told you this; however, you and your 1st place team always pushed me all season long to want to play better and I was a blackbird. I looked at you as a mentor, thank you Mr. Jay and I will continue to put my all into the game and try to be a positive role model/mentor like I learned from you. R.I.P w/love!!

Jay,

What you brought to the table for baseball in the St. Louis area is unmatched. I remember when Chris Schrick brought you to our Lake Saint Louis MSBL team and I new you were a special player. Not just your skills and knowledge on the diamond, but your demeanor as well on and off the field. I remember when you formed the Spikes and what you have done with that group of men tells a lot about you. You were a great leader who was well respected and people just liked to be associated with you. You were always successful at whatever it was you did and we all admired that. You were a great husband and father to your boys and a very proud of them. Whether it was with Lake Saint Louis, the Perfectos, the Renegades Fall Classic trip, or the opportunity to get to play for the Spikes, it was always a joy. I thank you my friend for that opportunity. Jay, you are 'baseball' as we know it whether your passion for playing, managing, or your love for the Cardinals. You will always be remembered and are a true Hall of Famer in all of our hearts. Prayers go out to the Davis family in this time of mourning. You are in a better place, and we will meet up again 'buddy'. God bless.

Jay was a great friend and one of the most amazing people I have ever met. It's so sad to have lost Jay so soon. Jessica, not sure if you remember me but Jay made my life in tough time much better and he was always willing to give me a great advise, I just wish I had the time to tell him how much I apreciated everything he did for me. In this tough time I can just say that we can all feel happy to have been in so many ways part of Jay's life. Love you Jay forever! Thanks buddy for all the great memories. I know you are in a great place.

Jay,
As odd as this sounds I agree with Steves' sentiment, a book or one sentence can never fully show what a truly great man you were.
Personally I still can not thank you enough for allowing me to find my love of baseball again, had it not been for you open invitation to play for the spikes 7 years ago I would have long forgotten the game.
You allowed all of the spikes to become family, enjoying ups and downs, trials and tribulations with both our games on the field and helping all of us off the field in one way or another.
It is because of this bond you created, that we will find the strength to continue on even though you have left us. We will all never forget you and will always be everlastingly grateful to have had you in our lives as both a manager, teammate and friend.
The profound amount of love you put into your personal life as well as the game of baseball will never be duplicated by any one of us. As a team and your friends, we will strive to reach that bar you set in the clouds, together as one, and make you smile behind those aviator sunglasses one more time.

Jay and I crossed paths for just a brief moment in 2009, while teaming up to dominate the MSBL Fall Classic in Jupiter, FL. His impact in terms of enthusiasm, love of the game, and love of his peers left a mark that will not soon fade. As a result, I started up my own travel team to provide the players in my league the same experiences, while continuing to team up with the Spikes as frequently as possible. Baseball players in my area have Jay to thank for the benefits they have now, even though most never knew him at all. That is how far his reach was. It's hard to imagine anyone filling his Spikes with the same touch, but given the group of quality guys he teamed together on an annual basis, his legacy will move forward one way or another. I feel deeply saddened for Jessica, the boys, and anyone who has put on the Spikes uniform, but I feel blessed to have done it myself, as well. Thank you Jay. You made me feel like an immediate part of your baseball family, and allowed me to make lifelong friends because of it.

Jay (or often known as "Cooper's Dad" to my daughters) had a personality that drew people towards him. He was easy-going, full of life, and considerate. He was the epitome of what I hope my son will one day grow to be: loving husband, dedicated father, and sincere friend. He will be greatly missed.

Jay,

I am so thankful for the time that I had to know you. Your love for your family, your passion for the game of baseball , and your calming manner throughout daily life will always be an inspiration! When I first started playing for the Spikes in 2004, I was immediately hooked. The way you ran the team and the atmosphere you provided was nothing like I had ever seen. You talked about the 'Spikes Family', and that is so true, we are a big family! You are like a brother to me, and I will miss you so much, and I will always remember you!

Jess, Ben, and Cooper, I am deeply saddened and sorry for your loss. I will always remember the way Jay loved you guys! He is a great man, not soon to be forgotten.

Jessica, Ben, Cooper and the rest of Jay's extended family,
My deepest sympathy goes out to all as you mourn the loss of a great husband, father, son, brother and friend. It has been my honor to know Jay for many years. His ability to make others feel welcome was unmatched, and his love for the best parts of life was infectious. I was fortunate to go on many road trips with Jay over the years. As much as it pains me to think of his passing, at least I have the solace of knowing he left us while enjoying life to its fullest. In my mind Jay is on an extended road trip playing the sport he loved with all those present who have passed before us. And he'll be there to welcome us whenever we arrive with a jovial smile, handshake or hug on a warm spring summer day. Until then Jay we'll think of you as we enjoy those moments you always made so special.

October 31, 2012

Jay, I will always be thankful for the opportunity you gave me to play for you. The passion and love you had for the game is unquestionable. The commitment, sacrifice, and legacy you leave behind will serve as a model to follow, especially for those like me who had the privilege and honor to have known you. Jessica, Ben, and Cooper my thoughts and prayers are with you. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Rest in peace my friend, we will miss you greatly.

Jessica, Ben, and Cooper:
On behalf of Sharon, Colin, and myself, I want to extend our deepest sympathy to you. Jay was, without question, an outstanding, generous, fun-loving person who always placed others' needs ahead of his. Sharon and I have had the joy of watching our son play baseball for many years, but I don't think Colin truly loved baseball until he met Jay and played for the Spikes. The Spikes clearly mirror their founder. It's a great organization with a great group of guys. Jay, we will miss you, but our family knows you will be doing your best to look after us, as you always did as a great friend, husband, and father.

Hey Buddy. I remember the 1st time we met in 2005. I was there trying to get a few of your teammates and yourself to play baseball with me in Florida that fall. I remember you gave me the look over and a few seconds later you took the field. At that point I knew I wanted to play for you. I remember down in Florida after our tournament was over and we were shaking hands you told me that I could play for you any day. I didn't realize what I was in for. I thought I would be signing up to just play baseball I didn't realize that I was becoming part of a family. I have learned so much from you and I instill that in the athletes I coach today. Jay I will always thank you for taking a chance on a chubby kid that no others would. The encouragement and the faith you had in me I just can't explain to people how you influenced me. I hope when I am called home you take another chance on me and I get to play the game we so loved together again. I'll miss you buddy. To Jessica, Ben, Cooper and the Davis family I am so sorry for the loss. Your family is in our Prayers “They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. I was so fortunate to have been able to meet you and spend time with you and your family, and I want to thank you for welcoming me to the Spikes 2 ½ years ago with open arms. As long as I live I will never forget the summer of 2011 when we won the Spikes Tournament, and after the game my 4 year old son was so excited about the trophy that you walked up to him and said you can have it Buddy! There are no words that could ever be enough for the man that you were and the brother that you were to all our spikes family, Buc said it best when he said that the man upstairs must have needed some serious help to take a man such as you
our thoughts and prayers go out to his and our spikes family.
We all love u and u will be sorely missed

Jay, I could write a book or one sentence and in no way could I possibly sum up your singular greatness as a person, father, husband, teammate, mentor, and friend. The last 11 years, compared to the first 20 have been my best and its no coincidence that it started at an All-Star game at C&H in 2002 when Schrick introduced us. It's been the best ever since. I miss you so much man. Impossible to forget you. I want to thank you for everything...just everything. You are the GOAT my brother, unanimous choice for the HOF. My family and I express our deepest love and prayers for your entire family. Jay, I love you brother.

My son, Chris, plays on the St. Louis Spikes and was in AZ for the tournament. When I learned of the accident it truly broke my heart. I've never met Jay yet I feel compelled to sign his guest book. I hope his wife and all his family & friends find comfort in knowing that people you may not even know are grieving for you and that you are in our thoughts & prayers. I am so sorry for your loss.
