Stuart Skinner Obituary

Skinner, Stuart MacMillan 90, of Gwynedd, PA, died peacefully in Lansdale Hospital April 14, 2012 following a serious illness. Beloved husband for 68 years of Margaret (Lionberger), he was the son of the late Walter R. Skinner and Celeste MacMillan. Born July 15th 1921 in Webster Groves, MO, Stuart graduated from St. Louis Country Day School and earned a BSE degree from Princeton University in 1943, where he played on an undefeated soccer team. Graduating in the midst of WWII, Stuart enlisted as lieutenant in the Army-Air Corps, with duty at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH. While on leave from duty he married Peg Lionberger of Clayton, MO and later returned to St. Louis to begin his family and career. Stuart worked for many years as an industrial engineer and was heavily involved in the early days of design and management of corporate mainframe computer information systems at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, and Thiokol Chemical and Anchor Darling Valve Co. in Philadelphia. As an Episcopalian, he was very active in the Church of St. Michael and St. George in St. Louis, and was for many years a tireless vestryman at St. Paul's Church in Chestnut Hill, PA. He did all of this while carrying out extensive renovations on two of his own family homes! Beyond soccer, Stuart enjoyed hockey, tennis and golf. He was a lifelong learner whose advice and knowledge was often sought by friends and loved ones. In addition to his wife, Peg, he leaves son, Stuart Jr of Norwood, MA, and daughters Marion Hornblower of Dedham, MA, and Julia Frater of Fish Creek WI. He is predeceased by his eldest daughter, Anne Wulfing of Ladue, MO. Stuart will also be greatly missed by his 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
