Wesbury Bascom

Bascom, Wesbury passed peacefully at home with his devoted wife (Joyce Granberry-Bascom) of 35 years at his side. Father of Patricia, Roderick, Terry Bascom and Carolyn Fisher. Wes developed an interest in boxing and trained under Pops Myles at St. Paul's Social Center. He was a Golden Glove Champion in 1945, 1947 and 1949. Fought professionally for a short while. Matched with Ezzard Charles, Floyd Patterson and Ceasar Brion. In 1997 inducted into the St. Louis Gateway Boxing Hall of Fame. Business ventures included ownership of Ringside Bowling Lanes and the Rendezvous Lounge. He retired from the St. L Board of Ed. Services: Visitation Mon., July 30, 10 a.m. Service 11 a.m. at Third Presbyterian Church, 9990 Lewis and Clark (at Chambers Road). Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery.
