John O'Keefe Obituary

O'Keefe, John J. 83, passed peacefully on Dec. 22, 2013 holding the hand of his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Ruth (née Vietor). Doting father to Denise (Rick) Sindelar, Maureen (Rick) Pollitt, and Ruth (Tom) Schulte. Loving proud grandfather of Tim and Katie Sindelar; Dan, Mike and Matt Pollitt. Faithful son of the late John and Catherine O'Keefe. Dearest brother of the late Charles (late Ruth), Mary (Dick) Sollmann, Delores (late Louis) Kreitler, the late Pat (Jackie), the late Jim (late Jo Ann), Tom (Charlie), Kay (Phil) Jones, Rita (late Bo) Dufur, Ronni (Steve) Dinkel, and the late Bette O'Keefe. Brother-in-law to late Bill (late Thelma) Vietor, late Earl (late Helen) (Ellen) Vietor, late Jack (late Betty) Vietor and Don (Gert) Vietor. Cherished uncle and greatuncle, dear cousin, as well as a devoted friend to many. John managed, then owned, several printing businesses over his lifetime, the last being APD Printing. He was a gentleman and an amazing man. Johnny enjoyed trains, billiards and woodworking; he could have fixed anything! Generous, dedicated, funny, professional, caring, intelligent, he humbly served his country in the Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. His death is our loss. Dearly loved, John will live on in all of us, forever in our hearts. May the road rise up to meet you, ¢$º And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Salvation Army or St Jude's Hospital. Services: Interment will be private. The family is being served by Hutchens Mortuary. Services: Memorial Mass at St. Martin de Porres Church, 615 Dunn Road in Hazelwood, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014.

My sincere thanks to each of you who signed this online Guest Book. I cannot get enough of what people have to say about my precious father. It has been just over one month now since he passed. However, this link to his life will close in a couple of days. It was very thoughtful of everyone to share their memories with us in this modern way. The old man would have been tickled. We appreciate every single word and are grateful for your kindness.

My grandfather wasn't just your typical guy. He was genuine and very much one of a kind. I was his only granddaughter and he showed me how much he loved me every moment I spent with him. I will never forget all of his funny stories and his delicious cooking! Rest in peace my wonderful grandpa. I love you- Your funny face- Katykins

I will always remember Mr. O'Keefe as a kind and humourous man that made me feel at home in his house. I often see his wit and humour in his girls .... Denise, Maureen, and Ruth. Our deepest condolences to the entire family and may your fond memories give you comfort in this time of grief.
