James Matthew "Jimmie" Fayard Sr. was born on February 1, 1952 in Biloxi, MS and passed away October 20, 2008 after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was of the Catholic Faith and embraced his cross until the very end.
He graduated from D'Iberville High School in 1970. He was President of Fayard Bros., Inc. and Vice-President of Fayard's Po-boys, also known as Fayard's B.P. Jimmie was a caring and generous businessman who believed in giving. He began his career at the age of 12 years old when he worked at Taranto's Curb Market. He also worked a short time as a painter before purchasing The D'Iberville Curb Market in 1983 with his brothers and business partners. In 1985 he co-founded Fayard's B.P. which is recognized by many Coastwide.
Jimmie enjoyed sports from Little League to playing and managing the Budweiser Men's softball team for many years. At a later age he took up golf and went on to become a three-time Club Champion of Gulf Hills Golf Club. His main love in his life was being with family and friends. He always had a kind word and a smile for everyone he met. Jimmie emulated his life after Mr. Julius Taranto Sr. and Mr. Glen Cothern who, through their example, showed Jimmie the importance of respect, caring, and compassion for all people.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his oldest son, James M. "Little Jimmie" Fayard, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Lynn (Stevenson) Fayard of St. Martin, his children, Christopher R. Fayard of Biloxi, Joshua A. Fayard, Nicholas Thibodeaux, Ashton Thibodeaux, and Lauren Quave, all of St. Martin, his parents, Elvis L. and Marie D. (Vuyovich) Fayard of D'Iberville, his brothers, Elvas (Barbara) Fayard, Keith (Delores) Fayard, of Biloxi, one sister, Dorinda Fayard of D'Iberville, one grandson, Maddox J. Fayard of Ocean Springs, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends who will miss him dearly.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville at 1:00 p.m. where friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in D'Iberville Memorial Park.
The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone who gave love, support and prayers through this difficult journey, especially to Sister Kim, who brought him Holy Communion daily, Ronnie and Darnell Iachino, Hospice of Light of Ocean Springs, Father Bob Higginbotham, Father Dennis Harlow and Father Patrick McDermott along with all other Clergy from the Diocese who visited. Special thanks to everyone at Charter Bank who gave Johnnie and Jimmie the greatest gift of allÉ TIME. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the St. Vincent De Paul Society of Sacred Heart Parish.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes, Howard Avenue, Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmie was diagnosed with Lung Cancer on the 25th of June, 6 years ago. He accepted his illness the same way he lived his life... With Faith in God, humility, courage and with compassion. His compassion for each of us that he loved and cherished, knowing how much we all would hurt every day without him caused him more pain than the cancer... There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss or think of him.... Thank each of you for your love, support and continued prayers.
With all my love, Johnnie Lynn

Every time I pass the store on Popp's Ferry. My mind goes back to Jimmie, Keith, and Elvas. My Aunt Wilda made Jimmie and I sweep that old parking lot at the Curb Market every night. All of us used to play football on Sunday afternoon at the old D'Iberville field. I remember Jimmie and Keith initiated me with the "Pole" at Notre Dame High School which was a tradition for 7th graders. Any time I see any of them, especially Jimmie we would relive the old pranks and fun we used to have working for my Uncle Julius. Many of you reading this will have the same memories. I love them all like brothers. I was away for 15 years in Nevada and did not know Jimmies immediate family as well as I did the brothers, but my sincere sympathy goes out to the entire family especially Johnnie and children and Jimmies Mom and Dad. My Uncle Julius must have needed some "Good Help" in Heaven. Jimmie will never be forgotten.

This is to all of the members of this wonderful loving family. I have so many many happy and funny memories of all of you - no doubt this is a tremendous loss but what a great day in "Heaven." Another angel goes home! God so loved all of His children - this is what we must focus on now. Jimmie is with his Heavenly Father. Love, hope and peace to all of you. You are in my prayers.

Johnnie and Fayard Family
Wanda and I would like to express our deepest sympathy. Each time we met whether it had been a few months or a year since we had seen each other, we would greet each other by saying where ya` at Jimbo and hey Jimbo, how`s it going, as if we had just met the day before. Always smiling and cutting up. So full of life and so many memories come to mind. I am so sorry to have missed the services...had it not been for an unavoidable surgery that day, we would have attended. We`ve lost another close friend who will be missed terribly.

Jimmie,
You weren't just my best friend's dad, you treated me like one of your own. From training me in the store business, to taking a risk on two twenty something year old "boys" to own one. You gave me an opportunity that most people only dream about, to work for themselves. It allowed me the confidence to continue to do that, even after we sold the store. Wherever my life leads me, I will owe it to you, for starting me on that path. I hope that you understood how much you mean to me. I will miss your smile, laughter, and joking. The store will never be the same without you. I love you with all my heart, and I know that one day I will see you again. Thanks for everything Jimbo.

I was so sorry to hear about Jimmie. He was kind, generous and loved. Almost every family is touched by cancer. What a horrible disease. God must have had a good reason to take such a good man.
I remember the "good ole days" at St. Theresa. Jimmie always had a smile on his face and spoke to everyone like you were his best friend. He will be missed, but not forgotten.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. We're sorry we could not be there for the services. Again, what a tragic loss.

God Saw You...
by Author Unknown
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.

The entire Fayard/Vuyovich Family were made from the same mold.... loving, kind, caring and they all have a sense of humor that everyone loves. They are ALL so much alike,,
We all loved Jimmie from the good old school days and we loved him until GOD called him home. He knew the meaning of suffering, he lost a child, the kind of pain that no parent should have to go through.
Jimmie also knew physcial pain and he endured the mental/emotional pain of knowing he was going to walk his "Calvary" as he embraced the last months of his life. Jimmie was very courageous and he knew he would meet his LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.
There is no suffering of any kind in GOD'S HEAVENLY KINGDOM.
Rest in peace Jimmie, until we meet again.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
