Joan Dieterle Obituary

Dieterle, Joan Meenan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 4, 2010 in Jacksonville, FL. Joan was born on May 3, 1929 in New York City. She was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She attended the University of Florida the first year they admitted women. She met Tom Dieterle of Owensboro, KY and they married in 1952. Joan and Tom had four sons. Joan was predeceased by her eldest son Thomas Martin, Jr. in 1965, and later by her husband Tom in 1966. Joan eventually started her own interior design business in Plantation, FL. In later years, she moved to Jacksonville to be closer to family. She enjoyed a new career as a Real Estate agent. Joan loved her boys, her grandchildren, her work, and the golf course. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Lago Mar Country Club in Plantation. Joan was also predeceased by her brother, Ed Meenan. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Jan) Novi, MI, Tom, New York City, and Dan (Lauri) Jacksonville. In addition Joan "Nana" is survived by her grandchildren, Stacey (Mike) Gamble, Novi, MI, Justin and Andrea Dieterle, Novi, MI, Danielle, Ryan and Kaylie Dieterle of Jacksonville. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 6 at 11 am at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 499 NW 27 Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33311. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to River Garden, 11401 Old St., Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258 or Community Hospice of North East Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
