Stephen Guilder Obituary

Guilder, Dr. Stephen Edward, 52, beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, son, friend, and doctor, died peacefully and lovingly surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, September 22. He lived life like he battled cancer - on his own terms. Determined never to give up and dedicated to cherishing each day, he taught his friends and family more during these last 24 months than he could imagine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Sheila Lindenbaum Guilder, and adored children Justin, Samantha, Ariel, Alex, and Ross. He was a cherished uncle to Michael Ladin and Michelle Calhoun, great uncle to Madison Rene, and a wonderful brother-in-law to Nancy Ladin. The youngest son of the late Dr. Arthur Guilder and Andree Mott, Stephen graduated from Florida State University and University of Miami medical school. He practiced as an Ear, Nose, and Throat/Facial Plastic Surgeon for almost 20 years in Broward County. Whether debating politics or diving with his spear gun in tow, Stephen always lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling, boating, snowboarding, caring for his patients, and methodically perusing museums. However, there is nothing that could bring him more joy than spending time with his family. Although he was always the last to arrive any place he went, he was also always the last to leave. There is no doubt he would have loved to stay longer with all of us. A Celebration of Stephen's Life Memorial Service, will take place at Temple Solel, in Hollywood, FL, on Friday, September 25, at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Guilder's honor to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, www.curemeso.org.*

To the Guilder Family,
I accompanied my daughter Mia to the heartwarming celebration of Stephen's life. Though his path and mine had not crossed during his brief lifetime, the picture of Stephen that was vividly painted by his loved ones told of a kind, honorable soul who brought great joy and substance to the world. God give you strength, and may Stephen rest in peace.

The celebration of Stephen today was an amazing tribute to Stephen & his beautiful family. We were privileged to have known him, going back to Justin & Jason's friendship & having seen this courageous dignified battle. I think I'll most remember his kindess towards others & unaffected attitude. Sheila, you're the greatest.

Dear Sheila, Justin, Ariel, Alex and Ross,

What a beautiful celebration of Stephen's life! You are all blessed with so many wonderful friends who loved Steve and who will continue to support you at this difficult time. When we awoke this morning Gregg and I reminisced about the Palm Beach weekend that Bobby Reiff related today. The image of Steve walking through the lobby of The Four Seasons in his robe and slippers, (while we all waited for him to go to dinner), is how we would love to remember him.

All our love,
Susan, Gregg, Samantha and Andie Schneider
