Larry Davis Obituary

Davis, Larry, avid runner, has died after a courageous 6 year fight against mesothelioma cancer. Larry was born in New Haven, CT. He passed away the morning of July 2 in his home in FL, survived by his wife Carol and daughter Courtney. Away from his successful online sunglasses business, Extreme Eyewear, Larry loved to run - joining fellow athletes in the pursuit of fitness, speed and the pure joy of running. He competed in local races at every distance, running 8 Boston Marathons, including a 2:56 time, and made a host of lifelong friends who will miss his humor and energy. In the last 3 years he dedicated his efforts to raise more than 80 thousand for non chemo/ non radiation research to treat mesothelioma, starting the Miles For Meso Races in FL. He always believed in a cure, if not for himself, for others that the money he raised for research would help. In Larry's words, believe in a cure, believe in yourself. This Friday, the visitation will begin at noon at Kraeer Funeral Home on 200 N. Federal Highway in Pompano Beach. Friends and family are encouraged to share their memories of Larry. The burial will follow at 2:30 p.m., finishing about 3, at the City of Pompano Beach Cemetery at 400 SE 23 Avenue which is just a half a mile south of the funeral home on Federal. In lieu of flowers, Larry has requested a donation to the Larry Davis Scholarship Foundation to help local young runners with a community service spirit c/o Runners Edge Foundation at 3195 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL 33432 or online at www.bit.ly/NicXm2

I met Larry a year ago when he was in the hospital in Baltimore. We would chat on the phone every few weeks. I am so sorry for his loss. I too suffer from meso. God bless you all!
