Tallahassee - Buddie J. Halbert, 74, passed away Tuesday evening, October 23, 2018, at Capital Regional Hospital, Tallahassee, FL. Born April 8, 1944, in Columbia Missouri, to Raymond and Thelma (Ankrom) Halbert, he graduated from Hickman High School and later attended the University of Missouri. He later joined the U.S. Air Force serving as a radar operator flying early warning reconnaissance missions during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Shortly after serving his country, he relocated to Eustis, FL where he worked various journeyman and construction details at Disney, Eamons Tree Service, Gwaltney Nurseries, and Cee-Jay Pools. He was an active member at Bay St. Baptist Church and was involved with coaching Little League Baseball, and YMCA Indian Guides. After graduating from University of Central Florida, he worked as an internal auditor for various utility and construction companies before relocating to Tallahassee in 1989. Mr. Halbert worked for Florida's Public Service Commission until retiring in 2011 where he then devoted much of his time to ministries such as Homestead Ministries, Take a Kid Fishing, Hands Helping Anglers, and Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief?). A true enthusiast for the outdoors, he was an avid hunter who shared his passion with his family and the public as a certified hunter's education instructor. Mr. Halbert is survived by his wife Relda of 33 years, three sons Bobby, Brian, and Blaine, and five grandchildren, Grace Ann, Anna, Wyatt, Abigail, and Elena. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at Woodrun Baptist Church with burial following at 10:00 at Tallahassee National Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Homes, 3322 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32311 (850) 942-2929.
