Russell Mountain Obituary

Russell Robert Mountain, 26, a native of Tallahassee, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 23, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Russell was a force of nature - funny, adventurous, charming, confident, stubborn, loving, opinionated and most of all, fiercely loyal to those he loved. From a young age Russell had many loves: Flirting with girls, recruiting fellow gamers, traveling the world, his immaculate 1988 BMW, Florida State sports, his Mother's and sister's cooking, his right to bear arms, and sharing his Dad's lifelong passion for baseball. He played from the time he could swing a bat, pitched for Leon and earned a baseball scholarship to Enterprise-Ozark Community College in Enterprise, Ala. Inspired by his grandfathers' and cousins' service to their country, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 2010 and had just returned home from a 6-month deployment to Afghanistan. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Laura Mountain of Tallahassee; his sister and brother-in-law, Kira and Wesley Yeary of Arlington, VA.; his maternal grandmother, Viola Mix of Tallahassee; aunts and uncles, Linda and Ray Norlin of Illinois, Patrick Mountain of Virginia, Dr. Tim and Wendy Mountain of Tallahassee, Frank and Stephanie Mix of Tallahassee, David and Carol Mix of North Carolina; and a host of beloved cousins. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Culley's MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel. Funeral services will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Friday, August 29, at 10 a.m., followed by interment with full military honors at Culley's MeadowWood Timberlane Road Chapel. To honor Russell's courageous service to the U.S. Air Force, his family asks in lieu of flowers to consider supporting the Wounded Warrior Project with a donation in his memory at support.woundedwarriorproject.org or P.O. Box 758541 Topeka, KS 66675.

Russell, you are definitely one of a kind. Certainly a character when I was in high school. You most certainly included me as your friend, and for that I'm most grateful! Always funny and adventurous I know you will be missed here by many. Until we meet again, my friend.

I went to Leon High School with Russell. I remember him as that really funny kid who got along with everyone. He was the kind of guy everyone knew, even if they didn't "know" him. I'm so happy to hear he did such amazing things with his life. I'm so sorry to hear that's he gone. My prayers are with you all.

Mountain family, Viola, & Frank. I am so very sorry for your loss. Russ was one of a kind and will forever be remembered as such. I am very blessed that had the chance to know him. When he came to Panama City a few years back, I had the pleasure to spend time with the sweetest, most respectful young man I've come across. From a boy making forts with my brother to this handsome gentleman who was filled with charm. I will forever hold those memories dear. I wish you all the comfort and love that you need. Thank you for raising such a special man. With Love
Diana

Dear Mountain Family, You have been in my constant thoughts this week. I will always remember Russell as the "kid brother" and have loved reading the stories about the incredible adult he grew up to be. I know you are so proud of him. I pray you find peace and comfort within each other and through his friends until you are able to be together again.

My heart is deeply hurting to learn of Russell's passing. I'll always remember him from Babe Ruth (remember our trip to Brunswick, GA) and Leon High School baseball. But I most will remember his good-natured smile and kindness. You all will be in my prayers and Godspeed to you, Russell.

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to Russell Mountain. His life was one of inspiration and he will not be forgotten. Our special prayers are for the family who have suffered the loss of three close family members since 1969.
