I had the great experiences of being Bill's research assistant, and being part of Moot Court. I learned more about law from Bill in that brief time than I have in the twenty plus years of practice since. His legacy is the hundreds of lawyers who benefitted from his wisdom and friendship.

I first met Professor VanDercreek at the Yugoslavia Program where my dad was the director. I later went to FSU law school and he was my professor. He taught the RULES of the law, no liberal ideology, just the rules. After law school, I called him many times about civil procedure and he always called me back the same day to discuss and argue both sides. I wish I would have thanked him more for the free excellent advice. Thanks Professor VanDercreek, say hello to my Dad when you get to Heaven and I'm sure he will be there to greet you at the door.

With deepest condolences to Bill's family. The knowledge of knowing the pain he endured in the last few months is now gone, is somewhat of a consolation. However, the pain of losing such a great champion of our Constitutional rights will linger with us for many years to come.
