To The Groomes Family:
It is very saddening news to here about your lost. Since I basically grew up with Benjamin in school until I went in The Air Force at a young age. If you know what the old neighborhood in West Jacksonville was like then you know that we were all one big family. So each time I here of a loss from there it greeves me dearly.
I pray Blessings for each of the remaining Family members. My words to you is those in Psalms 91. I hope that each of you will read it.
May God shed true Blessings on you.

When I came to FAMU as a freshman, Dr. Groomes was the first person in authority I met. He must have noticed how nervous I was; therefore, he quickly went to work putting me at ease. He and I became friends, and we remained friends throughout my career at FAMU. He touched so many young male lives during his tenure at the university. He leaves a legacy that our FAMU Family will be forever proud.
"And when he shall die;
take him and cut him into
little stars; and, he shall
make the face of heaven so fine
that the world will fall in love with night,
and pay no worship to the garish sun."

Bereaved family,
I knew and admired Dr. Groomes from childhood. I remember him as drum major for Stanton and as an outstandingly personable gentleman. He and his former wfe, Freddie, were dear friends to my deceased cousin, Shirley Odom. I always knew and continue to know that Dr. Groomes represented the best of humankind. God rest his soul. I offer Romans 15:13 to comfort the family.

To the grieving Groomes family I would offer words of comfort as found in the old hymn - "What A Friend" ..."O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all be cause we do not carry EVERYTING to GOD IN PRAYER". Benjamin made a great impact on me when I was a freshman music student at FAMU. God's peace to you all.

God bless the family of Dr. Groomes during this time. I appreciated him when he was our leader as director of Correctional Education in the late 80's and early 90's. He was a tireless fighter for the staff all over the state and even sacrified himself for the benefit of the staff and the agency. I had not seen him for several years, but in his conversations, he always talked about his family. He loved you dearly...but I'm sure you know that! God IS carrying you throw.
