I was a freshman at Boca Ciega High School during Mr. Kriever's tenure as Principal - 1973. I'm writing this because his name popped into my head randomly this morning, and I was compelled to read his obituary. We only addressed him as 'Mr. Kriever', and it's neat to know he went by 'Max'. He appeared to know the name of every student in the school - at least in my observation, he always called people by first name, myself included. His AM announcements always included the concept of 'Pride', and I see this concept went far beyond hearing this word through the PA speaker in the mornings. Please see my attached Handbook from that Freshman year, which Mr. Kriever personally delivered to each classroom. I remember examples of his integrity and caring to this day. My best memory is from one of the dark periods at the High School. At the time, racial tensions were very high, and unfortunately fights and dangerous conflicts arose. I vividly remember Mr, Kriever physically intervening to protect his students that were in danger, sometimes entering the fray to isolate or remove the perpetrators on both sides of the conflicts. He was a man that I've always remembered.

I was fortunate to work with Hugh Kriever for five years before he retired. Hugh was extremely hard working and very courteous to all who interacted with him. He encouraged me as a new administrator within the Pinellas School System and I will always remember him as highly principled and very physically fit. May God bless the memory of Hugh Kriever and comfort his family at this time.

I first saw Coach Kriever when I was 14rs old. I watched the varsity practice after I was finished with my own practice on the 9th grade team. I saw this wild, crazy coach running around, and I couldn't wait to play for him. He took me aside many times and gave me many life lessons. All I know about pride, sacrifice, and loyality I learned from Coach Kriever. He was the only father figure I ever had. I want to thank the Kriever family for letting me share him so many years ago. I can say with honor and pride that I love Coach Kriever and Mrs. Kriever with all my heart and I will love them forever. As a '76 grad from Boca Ciega HS, we saw some rough times and riotous race fights during our tenure. Few of us felt safe, and alot of kids got hurt. That was, until Hugh Kriever took charge. The old Texas Rangers spoke of "One Riot, One Ranger." But I never witnessed that sort of toughness and courage first-hand until I saw this strong and determined man in a nice 3-piece suit wade into a huge melee and break it up while hurting no one. He made it clear that we were ALL to treat each other better than that. He took an extraordinary interest in every student and knew most all of us by name. He had a God-given gift for leadership and motivation that you had to witness to believe. He "beamed in" one of the leaders from most of the fights to sit next to me in an elective "Bible History" class and that young man quickly calmed down and earned an "A"; simply amazing...
I went on to join the U.S. Air Force as an Officer and Pilot after college. As a young Lieutenant struggling to learn how to lead and motivate troops, I had only to remember what Mr. Kriever had shown us already.
Although I grieve his loss from our world and lives, I truly feel that we all now share an All-American First String Guardian Angel. He's just continuing his life's work... Godspeed, Sir!

Coach Kriever molded the lives of many and it was through his example that made it an indelible mark on the people that were privileged to know him. I consider myself one of those people and I am eternally grateful to have had the opportunity. What a great family, Mrs. Kriever is so amazing too. He left an "Outstanding" legacy, and he will be with us all in spirit! I will miss that beautiful smile. My thoughts and prayers are with his family~

I'd like to express my sincere sympathy to the Kriever family. Mr. Kriever was my Principal at both Azalea Junior High and Bogie. He quickly earned the respect of the student body and brought about a genuine sense of pride during racially challenging times. I will never forget him.

What a loss, Mr. Kriever (Principal at Boca Ciega) always had that smile-yet beneath it he was stern. Trust me when I say, this was the ultimate professional. He used to refer to me as "number 30", football number. He left an indellible stamp on me and challenged me to make something of myself. With that advice, it motivated me to enlist in the US Army after 22 Honorable years I retired all because Mr. Kriever gave me a direction. May God Bless him and his family.

Mr. Kriever stood tall and proud among all men but never more so than when he was working with children. He was the "Father of Patriot Pride" here at Pinellas Park High School. I started here at PPHS the year it opened its doors and am still here. Mr. Kriever instilled a sense of pride in each of us who taught here. I can still remember seeing him in the school bookstore in his white undershirt scrubbing the shelves before they were stocked with merchandise.

There are no words to describe the complete honor it was to work for Mr. Kriever. He had our backs and we knew it. He knew everyone's name, even the students. His love of the job was so evident and we loved him.

I have thought of him so often during these years since he left PPHS. He will always be "our" principal. God speed, Mr. Kriever. You deserve your honorable place in Heaven.

Coach Kriever, you were my favorite coach at Largo High School while I attended from 1966-1968, and I will forever remember the lesson you taught me regarding, (Always give it 110%). We had the best track teams in Largo History at that time. You were an inspiration to me then, and will always be so. God bless you and your family. See you in the hereafter.

In my 33 years of teaching, I never had an administrator that I admired anymore. He gave 100% in everything he did. He was loved by the students, staff and community. He respected his teachers and was quick to let them know that he appreciated what they did. Education has lost a great person. My respects to all his family.
