Marson Johnson Obituary

JOHNSON, Dr. Marson H., passed away Friday, June 11, 2004. He was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan. Presently Dr. Johnson was a Professor of Criminology at USF in Lakeland, Fla. He served in the Marine Corps from 1959-65. Dr. Johnson had a BS, MS and MA degree from Michigan State University. He also was a police officer in Charlotte, Mich., from 1963-69; planning director Tri-county Regional Planning Commision, Lansing, Mich., 1969-72; assistant professor West Virginia State College Institute, 1972-74; Director of Police Svcs., Gaithersburg, Md., Police Dept.,1974-77; Instructor USF, Tampa 1977-80; Assistant Professor, Pan Am University, Edinburg, Texas, 1980-82; Assistant Director, Florida Institute of Law Enforcement, St. Petersburg, Fla., 1985-88; Administrator, USF, Lakeland, Fla., 1988-; President, MHJ Criminal Justice Consultants, Tampa, Fla., 1982-; Organizer delegation to Belarussia concerning criminal justice systems issues, 1993; Leader delegation to Minsk, Belarus, 1995; p resenter human rights and law enforcement conference, Krakow, Poland, 1000, Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2002; member domestic Violence Task Force, Polk County, FL 1989-; Appt Member Fatality Review Committee, Polk County, 2000-; City of Bartow, MCPL Police Officer's Retirement Trust Fund; Building Directors Society Scholarship Founder, Recipient, Certificate of Appreciation, International Association Chiefs of Police 1976-77; Miami Police Dept., 1988, CAUSE Volunteer Search, 1984; Member, Academy Criminal Justice Society, American society Criminology, Police Management Association, Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency, International Police Association, American Legion, St. Patrick's Day Association, Charlotte Lodge, Saladin Temple, Bartow Rotary Club (Secretary 1996-99, President 1999-2000). He is survived by his son, Marson H. Johnson, Jr. of Land O'Lakes, Fla.; daughters, Caroline Rubio and her husband Nectali of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Sheryl Burke and her husband Master Sergeant James Bur ke of Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Christine and Marson Johnson III of Hanover, Ind., Sierra and Cody Burke of Hampton, Va., Andrea, Jessica and Gustavo Rubio of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters, Breta Stewart and her husband George of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Marda Johnson of Tuscon, Ariz. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be sent in his name to either the American Cancer Society, the Shriners of Tampa or the Rotary Club of Bartow, Fla. A Funeral Service will be held at Loyless Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at Loyless Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. LOYLESS FUNERAL HOME Land O'Lakes/Lutz Chapel (813) 996-6610
