John Wulbern Obituary
WULBERN, John Cummins of Tampa, passed away as the result of a heart attack on June 8, 2011 shortly after hitting a beautiful golf shot on the ninth hole at Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in Highlands, NC. John was born on Jan. 11, 1936 in Rye, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward Boubier Wulbern and Elizabeth Cummins Fisher. John was married to Nancy Cooper Wulbern on May 13, 1967 in Jacksonville, FL. At the time of his death, John and Nancy were living in Highlands. John grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. He attended Rollins College and the University of Florida where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. John was a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking and the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He began his banking career at the Barnett Bank in Jacksonville, and was president of the Barnett Bank of Ocala. John moved to Tampa in 1978 where he became the president of First Florida Bank, Inc. Following his retirement from First Florida Bank, John served as chairman of the board of Citizens First Bank in Ocala and then president of the Independent Banker's Bank. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the board of directors of Bay Cities Bank in Tampa. John was a past president of the Florida Banker's Association and a director of the American Banker's Association. He was a member of Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club, the Tampa Yacht Club and Wildcat Cliffs Country Club. He also recently served on the board of directors of Abe Brown Ministries. John is survived by Nancy, his wife of 44 years; their children, Walter John "Biff" Daly of Tampa, Robert C. Wulbern (Sharon) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Allan E. Wulbern (Fran) of Jacksonville, and John C. "Bo" Wulbern (Kristen) of Tampa; and six grandchildren, Walker, Alex, Jack, Sims, John and William. He is also survived by his brother Edward R. "Bo" Wulbern (Katherine) of Jacksonville. Services will be held Wednesday, June 15, at 1 pm at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Tampa.
