Patricia SHAVLAN Obituary

SHAVLAN, Patricia Kirk

83, passed away peacefully in her St. Petersburg residence on May 15, 2017. Pat is survived by her sons, Marvin and Michael (Alicia); and grandson, Trevor. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnold; and son, Brian. Pat was born October 1, 1933 in Matewan, WV, the youngest of five children of Louie Absolem Kirk and Florence Kirk. As an adult, Patricia lived in Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Arnold Shavlan. The two often vacationed in Sarasota and were married at the Sarasota Courthouse on Valentine's Day 1955. Two years later, Patricia and Arnold moved to St. Petersburg along with Arnold's brother Leonard and his wife Mildred. Together, they bought a small pawn shop, which was the beginning of the family business, Bond Jewelers. Over the years, the brothers ran the store while Pat raised three sons and, in her spare time, volunteered with the Temple Beth-El Sisterhood. Once the children were grown, Pat joined the family business, bringing with her a keen sense of style and fashion, garnered over the years during her many worldwide travels. She was a true fashionista and consulted with Bond Jewelers until recently. Her sons, her friends, and the many people she worked with will all miss her. Graveside services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 18 in the Temple Beth-El section of Royal Palm Cemetery, 101 55th St. S, St. Petersburg. A celebration of life will follow from 6-10 pm on Thursday in the Ovation Condominium Community Room (180 Beach Dr. NE, St. Petersburg). Street parking as well as garage parking (Sundial Garage, 117 2nd. St. N, St. Petersburg) are available. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Pat's memory to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Guestbook at davidcgross.com

There aren't enough words to describe the kindness, style, integrity, and character of Patricia Shavlan. She was a wife, mother and community member of the highest degree. Those that worked with her considered it an honor. The world was a better place with her in it, and those she encountered will never forget her.
