Christos Economou Obituary
WORCESTER - Christos F. "Chris" Economou, 81, of Worcester died tragically on Saturday November 30th. Chris leaves his wife of 52 years Maria (Papageorgiou) Economou, Two children, John and Popi Economou both of Worcester; two sisters, Polixeni Varsami of Ioanina, Greece and Ourania, wife of Fotios Efstathiou of Worcester; many nephews and nieces, cousins, and in-laws , both here and in Greece. Chris was predeceased by two brothers, Grigorios Economou of Ioanina, Greece and Prokopios "Paul" Economou of Worcester.
He was born in Vavouri, Epirus, Greece the son of Fotios and Kalliopi (Tsoni) Economou; and lived in Filiates, Epirus, Greece for many years. Chris graduated from high school in Igoumenitsa, Greece and served in the Greek Air Force. He came to Worcester in 1956 and worked at several restaurants until partnering with his brother Paul at the Westborough House of Pizza in 1972. In 1989 Chris opened the Blue Jay Restaurant in Sutton which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2005. Chris was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he proudly served as a Parish Council Member, and as a member of its Senior Citizens, the AHEPA, and Masons.
Chris will be remembered as a family man who always had his children's best interest at heart. He found great joy with his family and friends and was especially fond of going to the AHEPA and his daily walks with PJ. He will always be remembered as having a sharp wit and an infectious laugh, which could light up a room.
His funeral is Wednesday, December 4th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday, December 3rd from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Building Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.

"Chris" will never be forgotten by me any more than Paul, Lilly, or Spiro as they all brought happy memories to my & my family´s life...WHOP days continued with Fred and grew & grew ..a favorite "special night" dinner for sure but it was the fun shared while we waited for Chris & Paul to cook the pizza...you ARE missed...

So sorry for your loss. Never knew the family owned the Blue Jay but we always stopped there after a day at Breezy Beach when my kids were young and most recently seeing him at the Price Chopper all the time asking what I was sampling. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers..

I grew up laughing with Paul & Chris and learning little life lessons from them and their two beautiful brides! This iconic Westboro family has given so much to several generations of young people, and to an entire community. With this tragic loss we are saddened to be saying goodbye once again.
