Jean Cariglia Obituary

Jean J. (Camarra) Cariglia, 75, of Auburn, died peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, Worcester, following a courageous 3 year battle with ovarian cancer.

She leaves her beloved husband of 55 years, Dante R. Cariglia; her three children, Donna J. Cariglia, Lori A. Sinkis and her husband Don of Oxford, and Carol A. Manzi and her husband Joe of Worcester; her two grandchildren, Matthew and Caitlin Sinkis; her brother, Lou Camarra and his wife Dot of Worcester, and her sister, Dottie Marzelli of Worcester; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and very good friends. Jean was predeceased by her two sisters, Mary Camarra and Clara Anderson, and by her brother Joe Camarra. She was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Louis and Lucia (Delconte) Camarra, and has lived in Auburn for many years. Jean retired from the Worcester School Department, where she worked in the cafeteria of the old and new Gates Lane schools for many years. As a 'lunch lady', Jean was the inspiration for a series of children's books titled The Lunch Lady, written by Jarrett Krozoska, a Worcester native and former student at the school. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren, whom she loved endlessly.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jean's family on Wednesday, November 30th from 4-7 PM at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. Her funeral will be on Thursday, December 1st with the family gathering at the funeral home at 8:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Saint Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford Street North, Auburn. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. To leave a message of condolence or share a memory, please visit
