Frank White Obituary

Frank Frederick White, Jr.

Franklin, TN

Age 77, passed away August 20, 2015 at his home after a recent struggle with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Bransford White; two sons, Alan (Tricia) Knoxville, TN, Andrew (Amanda) Nashville, TN, and daughter, Leigh Ann, Nashville, TN, and grandchildren Hayden, Morgan, and Annie Noelle and brother-in-law Charles Butler (Pauletta) Edmond, OK. He will also be greatly missed by several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends all of whom he loved dearly.

Frank is predeceased by his parents, Maxine Wachstein and Frank F. White, Sr., his son Frank F. (Ricky) White, III, and his sister Ann Davis.

Born in Whiteville, TN on January 3, 1938, Frank's family moved to Nashville during his father's service in World War II. Along with his older sister Ann, Frank attended the county school system and graduated from Madison High School in 1956. In his junior year he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served two years active duty and six years as a reservist. Frank attended Middle Tennessee State University and the Wharton School of Business.

He began a very rewarding career in insurance with Interstate Life & Accident Insurance Company where he sold and collected premiums door to door on a weekly basis. Using his wit and aptitude he learned the business from the bottom up. In 1965, he joined Blair, Folin, Allen, & Walker which later became Corroon & Black Corporation. Corroon & Black ultimately merged with Willis Faber & Dumas which is known today as Willis, the third largest publicly held insurance brokerage company in the world. Frank served Willis and its predecessor firms for 33 years retiring as Chairman of Willis North America.

In 2002, Frank started his own insurance brokerage firm, Commercial Insurance Associates (CIA) where he continued to use his talents on a daily basis. His successful career spanned 57 years in which he developed countless lifelong friendships and was respected for his great character, intelligence, cool wit and commitment to his fellow associates.

Frank lived a full and wonderful life and was an inspiration to all. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and cherished friend. He touched the hearts of many and was a true blessing to all who knew him. An avid golfer, he loved the time he spent on the course with his friends and was a founding partner of Old Natchez Country Club. Frank believed strongly in supporting his community and was passionate in his support of the United Way and provided longstanding support of the Boy Scouts of America who honored Frank with The Silver Beaver Award in 1994 for his distinguished service to youth.

To celebrate his life, the family will receive friends at Hermitage Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, August 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday August 26 at 11 a.m. followed by Celebration of Life at 12 p.m. http://www.dignitymemorial.com/hermitage-funeral-home-memorial-garden/en-us/index.page, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN 37138, (615) 889-0361.

This is very sad. I played football with Frank in the mid 50's at Madison High School. Everyone thought a lot of Frank.

Frank was such a wonderful man. His whit was all of its own, and his laughter was always contagious. Frank had a way to bring people together. His passion for hiring the next generation in the insurance industry was very admirable. I was proud to have had worked for him. His wisdom has carried me through my career and I will never forget him taking a chance on a "youngster" looking to get her toes wet in the industry. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. He will be greatly missed.

Frank was an extraordinary person and a leader in the insurance industry. Frank forgot more about insurance than most people will ever remember. I was blessed to have Frank in my life. I am consoled by the fact that when you lose someone special, you gain an angel you know......

What a nice, sweet man he was. I only got to know him in his later years at Corroon & Black/Willis but he was always so very kind. Peace be to all who loved him in the days ahead.

My sympathies to the White family. I knew Frank initially as a customer at C&B, and later at Commercial Insurance. More so I had the pleasure to get to know him on a few fishing trips in the Gulf. A great laugh and a great man.

Frank was one of a kind. Lives changed forever when you were around Frank, he was a very special man. I'll never forgot those Corroon & Black days in the old building. Every time I came to visit, he made me feel like I was just part of the family.

He will live on in our hearts forever. May it comfort the White family to know that his Legacy lives on!

There is one more star up in the heavens, and even though it's far away, it's brightness and warmth still reach us here to make the night a little less dark.

My heartfelt sympathy,
