Dorothy Pitts Obituary

PITTS, Dorothy Christine WebbBorn June 9, 1921 and passed away Sunday, January 31, 2010. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle T. Pitts and parents, Shelley Cantrell and Andrew Jackson Webb. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Bro. Charles Mullins will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Pitts is survived by daughter, Luanne (Gary) Waltemath of Nashville; son, Lynn and beloved daughter-in-law, Judy Pitts; granddaughters, Sara Pitts and Emmy (Mark) Wilcox; great-granddaughters, Harper and Lyla Wilcox, all of Savannah, GA; extended family, Ward (Ashley) Waltemath of San Francisco, Beth Waltemath (David Lewicki) and Maggie Waltemath, all of NYC. She is also survived by sisters, Lois Cantrell of Madison, OH, Kathryn Boyd, Frances Walker and three brothers, Carlton, Ray (Lucille) and Marlon Webb, all of McMinnville, TN. Mrs. Pitts was the oldest of eight children and her strong will provided the stamina to battle ovarian cancer for 4 years. She was active in her community and served as a volunteer in various charities throughout the years. She was a long time member of Kingwood Church of Christ, the Flower Growers Garden Club and Middle Tennessee Medical Center Volunteer Staff. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in her memory. Pallbearers will be Jim Green, Sam McClanahan, Bob Schaffer, Carl Seigenthaler, Carl Surles, and Freelin Tolbert. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., at WOODFIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, (615) 893-5151. www.woodfinchapel.com
