Roy Hixson Obituary

HIXSON, RoyAge 84 of Alabaster, AL, died Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. Happily married for 61 years, he is survived by his wife, Mary LaMaster Hixson. He was born June 30, 1924 to Emory Clifton and Mary Belle Powell Hixson in Georgetown, KY. He graduated from Great Crossing High School and the University of KY and was a passionate Wildcat basketball fan. He served in WWII in the Pacific Theater. Roy had a long and versatile career in engineering, as a railroad, aeronautical, civil and environmental engineer, primarily with AVCO/Textron in Nashville, TN. Active in many civic organizations, he was President of the TN Toastmasters and also Nashville TN Chapter of Professional Engineers. Roy was also Chairman and Founder of the AVCO/Textron Management Club and member of the Sumner Co. Planning Commission. Roy celebrated life with a good-humored, laughing spirit and served as an exemplary Christian. Roy has served as Deacon and Elder of six churches previously, most recently First Presbyterian Church of Gallatin, TN. Roy is survived by his loving children, Ben (Pat), Ted (Debbie) and Jan Carol (Mike Pemberton), and 11 adoring grandchildren. Funeral services are Wednesday, April 22nd at 2 p.m. Visitation is Tuesday April 21st, 5 to 7 p.m. and 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday; Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL 35124, (205) 988-3511.
