Gerald Ladd Obituary

Gerald Warren "Jerry" Ladd

Antioch, TN

Age 68, passed away at his Antioch home July 13, 2015.

He was born in Nashville on January 6, 1947 to Etwell Lee Spann Ladd and Leo T. Ladd. A 1965 graduate of Cohn High School, he was drafted in 1966 and served two years in the U.S. Army, which included deployment to Korea. After his honorable discharge and return to Nashville, Jerry joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, where he served as an officer for more than 40 years before retirement. While he would write you a ticket, he himself loved to drive fast and was a life-long racing fan who enjoyed drag racing his own cars and attending NASCAR events. He was also a tall man who loved little dogs and owned several small breeds as pets during his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by children, Shelley (George) Walker, Valerie Oakley, Kerry (Lauren) Ladd, Jessica (Timothy) Swinney and Jenny Ladd; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and siblings, Shannon (Leslie) Ladd, Clara "Tinker" Eaves and William "Willie" Curtis. He will also be remembered and missed by a host of friends.

A visitation with the family will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 2-8 p.m., and the funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, both at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel at 5852 Nolensville Road in Nashville. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 11 a.m., at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include family and friends, with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department serving as Honorary Pallbearers.
