Mary Ann Nicholson

Opelousas - Opelousas - A memorial service for Mary Ann Rozas Nicholson, 82, will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Sibille Funeral Home in Opelousas LA.

Mary Ann died peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at her daughter's home. Her ashes will be interred in Washington LA at Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.

She is survived by her children: daughter Mary Alice Hale and spouse Jerry, of Breaux Bridge LA, son Robert Joseph Nicholson, Jr., M.D. and spouse Yvette, of Baton Rouge LA, son Sidney Joseph Nicholson and spouse Julia, of Opelousas, LA, daughter Marguerite Suzanne Shows of Hattiesburg MS, and son Vincent Gantt Nicholson and spouse Mary of Lafayette LA; thirteen grandchildren: Alice Wack, Vincent Wack, Julie Nicholson, Robert Nicholson, Brandon Nicholson and spouse Mary-Martin, Amelie Nicholson, Dylan Nicholson, Van Nicholson, Sidney Nicholson, Sam Nicholson, Lily Stanford, Edward Shows, and Gantt Nicholson; and one great-grandson, Sage Nicholson.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney J. Rozas, M.D. and Alice Boagni Heard; her sister and brother-in-law, Alice (Putsy) and Dudley Bienvenu, M. D., and her former husband, Robert Joseph Nicholson, with whom she remained good friends.

She was born, raised and lived almost her entire life in Opelousas. She graduated from Academy of the Immaculate Conception High School, attended Dominican College in New Orleans, and proudly earned her LPN license from T.H. Harris Technical Nursing Program in Opelousas. She was a loving and caring nurse to many at St. Landry Clinic and Doctor's Hospital in Opelousas.

Mary Ann wrote poetry and short stories in high school and college, some of which were nationally published. She painted, sculpted, enjoyed gardening and music. She loved to play bouree, and never missed watching the Tigers and the Saints on tv. She unconditionally adored her family and friends.

Many thanks to the staffs of Hospice of Acadiana, Lafayette General Hospital's 5th floor, River Oaks Retirement Home, Prompt Succor Nursing Home, and to Cynthia, Marilyn, Val, Miranda, Belinda and Denise.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Acadiana are encouraged, or to a charity of choice.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017

from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Sibille Funeral Home chapel. The funeral home will re-open on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for visitation until the time of the memorial service at 1:00 p.m.
