A very long time ago, he taught me to love the greatest art in the world, and that to enjoy it in person was the best way. He was a very good man and I loved his classes! I'm sorry some can't live forever.

Fred taught me art history when UL was USL. The best professor I ever had. He brought the curriculum to life. I have often thought that he seemed to have lived through each era he taught us about. A warm, wonderful and inspiring man. Rest in peace professor Daspit.

Fred was one of those professors none of us could forget. His love of art and architecture became part of us. My appreciation for all things art can be traced back to this wonderful person some of us called friend if only for our short stay at UL. Rest in peace Fred, I'll see you on the other side - over a cup of coffee no doubt. CRB - UL'74.

I'm so saddened to see this. I truly enjoyed his art, but even more his art classes back in the 80's. He taught me so much about bringing my sketches to life by adding depth and perception. I also enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Mrs. Jeanine in the home economics dept. at Lee Hall. Wonderful people, both! Sending the whole family my love and prayers for peace and comfort.

The most inspiring teacher I ever had. He made me trust myself. A gentle, brilliant soul. I will miss his wry sense of humor and forever remember the twinkle in his eyes.

He inspired me to be an artist and travel - he inspired a generation of us to go to New York an live the life of artists and his books on Louisiana architecture will stand as real scholarship. His relief sculpture broadens the language in which visual arts will be defined. He was a dandy dilettante in the best since of the word. He will be missed. Men like this come rarely in this world.
