Mickey Shunick Obituary
LAFAYETTE - A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Michaela "Mickey" Shunick, who passed away on May 19, 2012. Details will be released to the public as they are finalized.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support throughout this time and ask that their privacy is respected until the memorial service details are released.

Mickey would be so elated to have people donate to any of these, or any animal organization, supported. She was just a truly good and special kid, beautiful inside and out. She would have fought for any person or animal as ferociously as she fought for her own life. Without question. The cost of a vase of flowers could make a family and a future for an animal. That would be a legacy, and one she would treasure, and "The Mickey Way." She has gone on for now, but there are a lot of desperate creatures left behind. They could use the help. She is now beyond it.

Not sure if you remember us, but Mickey came to our farm one summer as a counselor for our Equestrian Camps. She touched the lives of over 20 children that summer and many are still riding and enjoying the sport. I know that she has influenced many young equestrians at Willow Oaks as well. She will be remembered with love, affection, & laughter--"The Mickey Way".
Our prayers and thoughts continue for Mickey's family. Mickey is now watching over all from a much better place. May she continue to take care of her "equestrian" kids.

I like so many others never personally met Mickey but I'll NEVER FORGET her. Her smile and blond curls will be forever embedded in my heart. I lost an infant son and feel no parents should have to know what it is like to bury a child. It is the worst heartache there is..A beautiful girl with so much to give..definitely GONE TOO SOON..RIP Beautiful..you will never be FORGOTTEN!!

To the Shunick family: I hope you know that your daughter Mickey brought together an entire city. Not just a town, or a suburb, but the whole of Lafayette and the surrounding area. She brought folks together from all walks of life and that is something few can ever aspire to do. The whole of Lafayette shares in your mourning, as do we residents of Lafayette scattered far and wide. May your grief be lifted from your shoulders, knowing you gave the world this child and she was held up on the shoulders of all of us. Her life may have been cut short and it is we, who did not know her personally, who mourn with you. Every parent hopes their child will make a difference--your daughter will live on in Lafayette, as will her spirit. I hope, with all of my heart, that you can find comfort in that.
