Isaac Theobald Hebert
LAFAYETTE - Isaac Theobald Hebert died peacefully at his home in Lafayette on October 21, 2011. A Memorial Service, to celebrate his life, will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 11:30 AM at Our Savior's Church-Lafayette Campus, 1201 E. Broussard Rd., 839-8889. Pastor Jacob Aranza will conduct the Memorial Service. Visitation will be observed at Our Savior's Church from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Isaac Hebert was born on October 1, 1942 in Breaux Bridge, the youngest in a family of twelve. From an early age he developed an independent spirit and a deep love of horses. His family was very close and he grew up playing with his nieces and nephews, who were the same age as "Uncle Isaac".
As he raised his five children, he instilled in them a love of family and animals. He ran horse related events and taught many young girls and boys how to ride and enjoy horses. Always willing to help family and friends, he was blessed in return by their generosity and had many friends throughout his lifetime-both old and young.
He was able to realize a life-long dream to own a ranch in the country for his horses. He worked and prepared it to accommodate horse riding therapy and was disappointed when he became too ill to maintain it five years ago. Isaac loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed introducing them to the world of horses, too.
In the past few years, Isaac was able to perfect his cooking skills and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He also developed a passion for motorcycles and eventually upgraded to a three-wheeled trike bike so he could ride with his wife or a grandchild behind him.
Isaac's occupations were varied throughout his lifetime. He was a certified welder, large equipment operator, boat captain, asphalt plant operator and had a dirt-moving business. He was a mechanical inventor and developed several tools that were later adapted for oilfield utilization.
Isaac became a Christian in 1992 and has been an example of a Godly Man of Christ to family and friends ever since. He has been a member of Our Savior's Church and throughout the past months he has received wonderful spiritual support from its' Pastors and church members. His family has also provided special care on a rotation basis in his home.
We would like to express special thanks to his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Kathleen Hebert; nephew, Clifford Hebert; nieces, Judy Romero and Emmaline Thibodeaux and her husband Charlie; his sister-in-law, Mildred Hebert; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ronnie and Rickie Garritt. They have taken such wonderful and compassionate care of Isaac all this time. We also would like to thank Greg Kingston and his nursing staff at First Option Home Health for the care they gave Isaac.
Isaac is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Saltzman); his children, Lisa Hebert Caillier and her husband Mike, Todd Hebert and his wife Barbara, Christie Hebert, Cody Hebert and Billy Hebert; one step-son, Todd Whalley; his grandchildren, Colt, Blaine, Paige, Devin, Candace, Bailey, Camryn, Lily, Caroline, Eleanore and Anna; and one great grandson, Bentley. He is also survived by one brother, Jack Harris Hebert and his wife Kathleen; two sisters, Mary Rose "Rookie" Castille and Belzire "Belle" Gravouilla; sisters-in-law, Mildred Hebert and Ronnie Hebert Garritt and her husband Rickie; mother-in-law, Dorothy Reilly; brothers-in-law, Donald Citarella and Richard Citarella and his wife Ann; forty-three nieces and nephews; and over eighty grand-nieces and nephews.
