Leonard Lloyd Richard
SCOTT - Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012 at a 1:30 PM Mass of Christian Burial in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, for Leonard Lloyd Richard, 70, who died on Friday, March 30, 2012 at his residence in Scott.
Entombment will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Mausoleum.
Reverend Thomas P. Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Concelebrant for the funeral mass will be Rev. Robert Seay, O.F.M. Giftbearers will be Madison Paige Richard and Sydney Rae Reppond. Lectors will be Cindy Hebert and Barbara Jean Richard Lemaire. Jerry Legros, soloist, will sing for the services and Valerie Andrus, organist, will provide musical accompaniment.
Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Janice Broussard Richard; one daughter, Michelle Denise Richard Reppond and her husband, Shannon Ray Reppond,of Opelousas; two sons, Brian Paul Richard, Sr. and his wife, Shelley Woods Richard of Youngsville and Mark Jerome Richard and his wife, Jeni Lanerie Richard of Shreveport; six grandchildren, Brian Paul Richard, Jr., Madison Paige Richard, Hunter Chase Richard, Sydney Rae Reppond, Seth Bennett Reppond, and Logan Alexander Reppond; two sisters, Barbara Jean Richard Lemaire of Grand Lake and Henrietta Faye Richard Bourque of Lafayette; one brother, James Donald Richard of Sweet Lake. Additionally there are numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Mae Benoit Richard and Marvin Lee Richard; one sister, Dorothy Mae Richard Theriot; one brother, Gerald Alfred Richard.
A resident of Scott, Louisiana for thirty five years, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in with a B.S. in Business Administration, and was an avid follower, supporter, and huge fan of U.S.L. Athletics.
Leonard celebrated life having been a part of numerous associations and affiliations. He was very active in the Cursillo Movement having made his Cursillo #66 under the spiritual direction of Fr. Fidelis Albrecht. Additionally, he was a very active member of the Carmelite Guild and spent countless hours working in the vegetable garden with the Carmelite Sisters. He and various others began the "Come Lord Jesus" program in the Scott area with Fr. Conley Bertrand and Sr. Francine Guillory. Later, he continued his missionary presence with the Third Order Franciscans. Leonard was a member of the American Legion, Blinded Veterans Association, and the Affiliated Blind of Louisiana Association.
Pallbearers will be Brian Paul Richard, Jr., Hunter Chase Richard, Seth BennettReppond, Logan Alexander Reppond, Seymour Steven Guilbeau, Christopher Daniel Guilbeau, Chad James Bourque, and Keith Allen Theriot.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Stephen Provost, Thomas Anderson, Ashton Mouton, Andrew Guilbeau and James Donald Richard.
Special recognition is given to his caregiver and friend of two years, Burnella "Breez" Doucet.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service, 1:30 PM.
A Rosary will be prayed by the Third Order Franciscans on Sunday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home of Scott.
