Robert Whatley Obituary
Oakdale - Mass service for Robert Martin Whatley MS, CRC, LRC will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2017 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jenish Joseph and Deacon Brian Soileau officiating. A rosary will be recited on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of White Oaks. A Committal service will follow in the Reeds Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale.
Martin, 37, of Lafayette, entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 21, 2017 in the Lafayette General Medical Center of Lafayette. He was born September 27, 1980 in Kaplan, Louisiana to the union of Robert Ursel Whatley and Cecilia Johnson Whatley. In 1998, he graduated from Erath High School and furthered his education receiving his Master's Degree in Psychology from the University of Louisiana of Lafayette in 2006. He worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Louisiana in Lafayette, where he worked as a fulltime employee.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his parents, Robert and Cecilia Whatley of Rayne; his fiancé of 3 years 7 months, Linda Ann Blackwell; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held in the Chapel of White Oaks, Monday, October 23, 2017 from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m., then on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 8 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in the church.
Aunts, uncles, and cousins Special Thanks to the many loving nurses who cared for him and many doctors who made it possible for him to live a productive life. Special Thank to MDA counselors.

Whatley Family, This is dr. Andrew King. I just saw that Martin died at the age of 37.I looked after Martin for his scoliosis . Evan as a small boy in a wheelchair and on the ventilator program, I remember him as fiercely intelligent , and a fighter.And questionning the how's and why's of our proposed treatments. I am not surprised to read about what he went on to accomplish

To Mr. & Mrs. Whatley, We had no idea that Martin had passed away. He will be forever part of our family. Our boys always referred to him as Uncle Martin. Their grandmother always said he was one of her boys. When they were young they just kept that saying too. He will be surely missed. Pat Hanks and Family

My dad, Mike Connick, was Martin's nurse for a few years. I will cherish the memories that I have from when dad would take care of Martin. I hope you and dad are laughing in heaven. Rest in peace and I love you always! April Connick Byard
