Raymond Kennedy Obituary

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…" Psalm 23. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and former American soldier left this life for his eternal life with Christ on December 26, 2013. Raymond and his young wartime bride, Edna Lee Gayle Kennedy, were married on December 4, 1945 and remained the love of each other's life for 68 years. A native of St. Landry, Louisiana and born on September 10, 1925, Raymond was the eldest of five children born to Louis and Agnes Thibodeaux Kennedy. He served his country during WWII as an Army Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne – 508 Paratrooper Infantry Regiment from 1943-1947, during which time he was awarded numerous medals. He retired as a pipefitter from Local 198. He was a man of few words but will be long remembered for his love of Cajun music and his two-step dancing, as well as his pastime of rose and vegetable gardening. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Kenneth R. Kennedy, Fred M. Kennedy and wife Marie; and Roy S. Kennedy and wife Denise; two siblings and their spouses, Shelton and Delores Kennedy, and David and Barbara Kennedy; grandchildren Phillip and Melissa Kennedy Chamberlian, Lance and Lauren Kennedy, Robert and Melanie Kennedy Graham, Kirk and Christi Kennedy Edwards, Scott and Tara Kennedy Watson, and Michael and Jenny Kennedy; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings; sister Idell Kennedy Deville; and great grandson Aries Michael Hoffpauir. Pallbearers will be grandsons Lance Kennedy, Michael R. Kennedy, Kirk Edwards, Scott Watson, Robert Graham, and Phillip Chamberlain; and beloved nephew Michael D. Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers are Shelton Kennedy and David Kennedy. Visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Friday, December 27 from 5-9 P.M. with recitation of the rosary at 8:00 P.M. Visiting resumes on Saturday, December 28 from 9 am until religious services at 11am, conducted by the Deacon Shelly Joseph. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Special thanks to Dr. Rudolfo Manalac and staff, caregiver Doretha Jones and the wonderful caring staff of Hospice in His Care. Please sign the online guestbook at www.bakerfuneralhomeonline.com.

Aunt Edna & family, my heart is so sad along with you at our loss of Uncle Raymond! May you take comfort in the beautiful life he lived and you shared together--always kind, loving, gentle, quiet and faith filled! I always enjoy our family getting together, especially our recent visit when Uncle Raymond shared some his life stories! I look forward to hearing lots more of them when we meet again in Heaven. Until then, I pray the Peace of Christ will comfort each of you and God bless! All my love,
Theresa Kennedy Martin and family
