Alice Swayze Rigby

A retired schoolteacher and a resident of Vicksburg, Miss., she died at 5:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Lakewood Quarters Assisted Living. She was 91, a native of Mississippi and a U.S. Naval Reserves WAVES veteran. Visiting at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Chris Andrews. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jane and Ed Giles, of Roswell, Ga.; four sons and two daughters-in-law, John Rigby, of Savannah, Ga., Hugh and Barbara Rigby, of Sugarland, Texas, Swayze and Joni Rigby, of Baton Rouge, and Lawson Rigby, of Jackson, Miss.; and 12 grandchildren, Gabriel and Jessica Rigby, of Jackson, Richard, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Jordan Rigby, of Sugarland, Chad, Boyce, Carter and Casey Rigby, of Baton Rouge, and Hunter and Brittany Giles, of Roswell. Preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Rigby; parents, Richard and Bertha Beall Swayze; two sisters, Betty McInnis and Gertrude Swayze; and four brothers, Orrin Swayze, Marion Swayze, Yandall Swayze and Barnett Swayze. She was a faithful member of the ÒGood NewsÓ Sunday school class and took part in the ÒKnitting the threads of God"s LoveÓ ministry at First United Methodist Church.
