Julius Bahlinger Obituary

Julius slipped the bonds of earth to touch the face of God Monday April 21, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 12, 1924. He was a giant of a man whose faith in God infused his life with goodness. He was a lover of family, a lover of people, and a lover of life. Julius used this love to serve his community by serving on the first Bi-Racial Committee of Baton Rouge, The National Council of Christians and Jews, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and a founding member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he actively served his church as a lector for many years and was a member of the first RCIA committee. He was given the Individual Excellence Award by the Baton Rouge Growth Coalition in 2000. He was a graduate of Catholic High and LSU. Julius was a member of the "The Greatest Generation" and proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean War. "He showed us how to live and he showed us how to die – in true dignity." Julius is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Frances Robichaux Bahlinger. His children include Juli Bahlinger, Pati and husband Ike Capdevielle, Andy and wife Kathy Bahlinger, Barbara and husband Alan Griffin, Lisa Bahlinger, Mimi and husband Brent Bueche. He was fondly called "Opa" by his grandchildren Nathan, Josh and Leah Dodds, Alyce and Chris Blackstone, Jacob and Ashley Capdevielle, Mic and Jaclyn Capdevielle, Blair and J. Walpole, Drew Bahlinger, Alissa and Brian McWilliams, Ashley and Mitch Nelson, Jeb and Shelley Black, Brad Black, Aubrey Black, Elizabeth and Natalie Bueche, Trey Capdevielle, Jamie Hernandez, and Kelli and Chet Ferachi. He also treasured his 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Marion, Donald, Reggie, Barbara and Harold Bahlinger. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Mathilda Bahlinger and siblings Vernon, Charles and Kathleen Bahlinger. Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons. A special thanks to his devoted caregiver, Kim Edwards. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, April 23, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St. A celebration of his life, officiated by Fr. Greg Daigle and co-celebrant Fr. Julius was also a pioneer in the use of computer technology in his appraisal business. He inspired me to accept the inevitability of its applications in the growth and development of the practice of Real Estate, and to prepare and educate myself, so that I could do my best work.

Patti,
My heartfelt sorrow for the loss of your Dad. I didn't know him but after reading his obituary and listening to Jaclyn and Mic, I sense what a special Dad and person and child of God he was. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the family. David and Kim

Uncle Julius was truly a man of God. I only ever heard good things about him, and the few times that I did get the honor to be with him I was blessed with his very gentle presence and soul. He is loved and missed, and I look forward to when we will all be together again one day.

From the time I first met Mr. Bahlinger, I knew he put his family first. My prayers to all of his family during this time of his passing. He will be greatly missed by all. Special prayers for " Mrs. B". Those two were the type of couple everyone should aspire to be. Their home was always filled with love, smiles, laughter, and good food! None other could be so kind.
