There were five students in his graduating class. He went on to the University of Kansas, where he earned his doctorate of medicine, graduating with highest honors in surgery and medicine. He completed his medical internship and residency at Los Angeles County General Hospital. Shortly after, he served as a helicopter combat surgeon in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal for Heroism, among other medals. Tony then moved with his family to the Monterey Peninsula, where he practiced medicine for the last 40 years. Throughout his life, he was a highly respected physician, whose expertise in internal medicine and gastroenterology made him the caregiver to thousands of patients, who also became his friends.
