Salinas
Karen Eldridge Bohn, 76 of Salinas, CA. passed away February 1, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born October 21, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Keith and Maxine Eldridge.
They moved to Ontario CA in 1954 and she graduated from Chaffee HS in 1958. After high school she attended San Diego State University where she met and married her husband Robert (Bob) Bohn.
They lived in Germany and Dugway, UT from 1962 to 1965 while Bob was in the US Army. They moved to Davis CA while Bob finished school. They settled in Salinas in 1968 where she worked for the YMCA, was a police officer for the Salinas PD in the early 70s, bookkeeper for Airport Builders Supply in the 80s, and finally retired from North Salinas HS as a secretary.
She and Bob were foster parents for teenage girls in the 1970s and 80s. During the 1990s, they hosted AFS students. They were known by many a teenager as their "second parents".
She was a dedicated member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, served on the local Salvation Army Board of Trusties and was an avid quilter.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Bohn.
She is survived her daughter, Lorene Johnson of Prunedale, son, Robert W. Bohn (Carolyn) of Salinas, brother, Maxwell Eldridge of Everson WA, sister, Jennifer Bonynge of Eugene OR, grandchildren, Jacob Bohn, Sky Johnson, and Shyanne Johnson, Sophia Bohn, and Great-granddaughter, Annabelle Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA. 93901.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Northminister Presbyterian Church, 315 E. Alvin Drive, Salinas, CA. 93906.

I was one of the first foster girls with Bob and Karen. Couldn't have asked for more calm, family oriented, patient people. I was there for Lorene's 2nd birthday. And I was still coming around when Robert Junior was born . I know it had to be a great loss for the two of you kids . When I saw this it broke my heart. People you need to keep in touch with those that have been in your life. I will forever regret not seeing them at least one more time. If you see this please contact me I know it's already been a couple of years but I'd still like to talk to you. 209-629-1353

Karen and I both worked for the SUHSD for many years, our paths crossed often and she never failed to help solve a problem. She was a wonderful co-worker and friend. Rest in Peace my friend.
