Joseph Hebda Obituary

Joseph S. Hebda, age 72, beloved son, brother, uncle, husband and father, of Martinsburg, W.V., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016. He was in Fort Pierce, Fla., doing what he enjoyed most; fishing and spending time with his best friend, Kevin Johnson. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Joe was born on June 12, 1943 the son of the late August J. Hebda and Stella T. Koniszewski Hebda. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School, a member of the class of 1961. He then attended the Williamsport Technical Institute.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.He received the National Defense Service Medal and Parachutist Badge. He also received training in Basic Airborne and Special Forces Training.
For his life's work, he worked at various construction companies in Rochester, N.Y., Jamestown, N.Y., and eventually in Martinsburg, W.V., where he retired as Vice President of the Jefferson Group in 2014.
He was a man of many varied interests. He played golf every chance he could. He loved fishing, from trips out west for trout and salmon to the Chesapeake Bay. He was an accomplished pilot. He enjoyed jumping on his motorcycle and going for long rides. He loved tending to his gardens and growing beautiful flowers. He was also an amateur photographer. More than an amateur chef he was always trying new recipes and loved baking. He enjoyed hunting and skeet shooting. He loved music and going to see concerts with friends. He also dabbled at playing the guitar.
He is survived by his spouse, Lucinda Hebda of, W. Bloomfield, NY.; his two sons, Ted Hebda and Cam Hebda of Rochester, N.Y.; his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and Robert McDonough of Vestal, N.Y.; his nephews: Jon and Tracy McDonough of Rochester, N.Y., and James and Kristine McDonough of Harpursville, N.Y.; and his two great-nieces, Emma and Addison McDonough of Rochester, N.Y.
A transferal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing, Pa., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Wyalusing, Pa., with the Rev. Joseph J. Manarchuck presiding. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Stowell, Pa.
Friends may call at the Homer Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 and from 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's Assumption Church, 245 State St., Wyalusing, Pa., or to the charity of your choice in his name.
