Rita Diestel Obituary
She was born on Nov. 16, 1927, in Montville, the daughter of John and Rose LaVigne.
Rita and Ken were founding members of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry. She was an active member of the Ladies Guild and the Perpetual Adoration group.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and John Richmond of Pottstown, Pa., her daughter, Judith Emory of Gales Ferry, her daughter and son-in law, Donna and Frank Lowery of Norwich; and her son, Robert Diestel of Gales Ferry. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kris Emory of Uncasville and Steve Lowery of Griswold; and her great-granddaughter, Elyn Patton.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Alfred LaVigne and her sister, Loretta Daniels.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visiting hours or reception. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Route 12, Gales Ferry. Burial will follow in Avery Stoddard Cemetery, Route 214, Gales Ferry.
In lieu on flowers, please make memorial donations in Rita's name to a charity of your choice.
