Born in South Woodstock, Vt., on Oct. 1, 1926, he moved to Sarasota, Fla., from Groton. Leonard was a Navy Veteran of World War II and a graduate of Boston University. He was co-owner and president of Gunn Real Estate and Insurance Agency in Groton from 1950 to 1985; state chairman of the Connecticut Multiple Listing Service; president of the Southeastern Connecticut Commercial and Investment Division; president of the New London Real Estate Board; and president of the New London Multiple Listing Service. He also served on several State of Connecticut committees.
Mr. Gunn was a member of First Church of Christ, Congregational, Groton; a life member of Kiwanis International; past president of the Groton Kiwanis Club; past lieutenant governor of the New England District Kiwanis International; past president of the Groton Chamber of Commerce; member of the Brainard Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. in New London; and a member of the Sarasota, Fla., Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Olive, of 57 years of marriage; a daughter, Sigrid A. Gunn and Martin F. Gwynn, of Clearwater, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kimberly E. Gravelle and her husband, Jeffrey A., of Clearwater, Fla., and Leslie A. Crotty and her husband, Matthew A., of Halifax, Pa.; and a brother, Gilman C. Gunn Jr. and his wife Carolyn, of Old Lyme.
The burial will be private at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at First Church of Christ, Congregational, located at 162 Monument Street, Groton.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Byles Memorial Home, New London.
