Roseanne C. Saunders

Ledyard - Roseanne C. Saunders, 75, of 32 Ledgewood Road, Gales Ferry, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 19, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 7, 1937, in Lawrence, Mass., the daughter of James A. and Ella (DiMassi) Cavalieri. Until she retired, Mrs. Saunders had worked as an administrative assistant to the head of the planning department at Electric Boat in Groton. She was married to Franklin W. Saunders who died on May 10, 2000.

Mrs. Saunders was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Perpetual Adoration group. She looked forward to and attended church every Sunday with her good friend Winnie Mayo. She was accomplished in her ability to knit, crochet and sew. She had made and given away well over 1000 knit hats, many of which are still keeping children's heads warm.

Survivors include her two daughters, Loren Shaw and her husband, John, of Gales Ferry, and Dorene (Saunders) Trowbridge and her husband, Phillip, of Old Lyme; one brother, James A. Cavalieri Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Revere, Mass.; three sisters, Theresa Algeni of S. Portland, Maine, Regina Mary Marcucella and her husband, Anthony, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Eleanor Cavalieri of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jensen D. Shaw and Sydney K. Trowbridge; along with many nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry. Burial will follow in Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Gales Ferry. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Donations in her memory may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1650 Rt. 12, Gales Ferry, CT 06335.
