Anne M. Manning

Mystic - Anne M. Manning, 92, of Mystic, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013, at Avalon Health Care.

Born in Troy, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late VADM John J. Manning Sr. and Marie (Riordan) Manning of Troy and Washington, D.C.

Anne attended George Washington University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and also attended Washington School for Secretaries. She remained in Washington for most of her life, retiring as secretary for the head of the Maritime Administration. During her time in the city, she attended functions at the White House, meeting presidents, Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy.

Some of the favorite things she enjoyed doing were attending the National Theater, shows at the Kennedy Center, and showing her nieces and nephews the cultural attractions of our nation's capitol. Following her retirement, Anne became very involved with the Washington Meals on Wheels Program

She is survived by a brother, John J. Manning Jr., and his wife, Virginia, of Gales Ferry; sister-in-law, Jane Manning of Walnut Creek, Calif.; nephews, Michael Manning of Walnut Creek, John J. Manning and wife, Natalie, of Middletown, R.I., Christopher Manning and wife, Monya, of Martinez, Calif.; nieces, Sally Manning of Bishop, Calif., Susan Dudley and husband, Greg, of Turlock, Calif., Sheila Patterson and husband, Brett, of Randolph, N.J., Margaret Julian and husband, Brian, of Crisfield, Md., Stacy Johnson and husband, Kurt, of Broomfield, Colo., Monica Saylor and husband, John, of Walnut Creek, and Ann Marie Burke of Elk Grove, Calif.; cousins, Joan O'Connell of Springfield, Pa., Jean Kreutzman of Redford, Mich., and John T. Raleigh and wife, Judy, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald R. Manning

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 12, at St. Patrick Church, 32 Main St., Mystic. The burial will take place in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown, R.I., at the convenience of the family.
