Diane Porter Obituary

Ledyard - Diane Phyllis (Mains) Porter passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at her home in Ledyard, with her husband John at her side.

Diane was born in Oceanside, N.Y., on July 17, 1942, the daughter of the late Winfred and Virginia (White) Mains. She grew up in Baldwin, N.Y. and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1960.

Diane's favorite work experience was her years spent as a therapeutic recreational director at Greentree Manor. Her sparkling personality, blue eyes, infectious smile, and love of life combined with her skill in arts and crafts made her a favorite with all the residents.

She spent much of her retirement years auto-touring the U.S. and vacationing in Florida as a part time snowbird.

Diane is survived by John, her husband of 51 years; two daughters, Elaine of Ledyard and Jeanine of Patchogue, N.Y.; brother, Roy Mains and his wife, Judi, of Jensen Beach Fla.; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Her wish is that her ashes be spread where the buffalo roam in the West and where the porpoises swim in the South.

Gifts may be made in Diane Porter's name to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
