Edward Saddig Obituary

Norwich - Edward "Eddie" Charles Saddig, 47, passed away March 19, 2012, in Terra Haute, Ind. After a long battle to bring him home, he will now be able to rest in peace here in Connecticut with his father near his family, many friends, and the ocean where he was happiest.

Ed grew up and attended schools in Montville. He excelled in baseball and motorcross racing, always fitting in time for fishing. Ed worked on the Cross Sound Ferry, the Mobile Islander out of New Haven, Atlantic Tank Ships out of Virginia, and at the Amerada Hess Corp. in Groton, prior to moving to Terra Haute where he worked for Klemm Tank Lines.

Ed's first love was the ocean where he loved to work, fish, and play. Ed was a loyal, fun loving, hardworking, caring son, brother, friend, and dad who left us all too soon. He will forever be missed by all his family and many friends.

He is survived by his mother, Sheila Saddig of Uncasville; sister, Christine Cavan of Oakdale; nephews, Richard Cavan of Atlanta, Ga., and Steven Cavan of Oakdale; and son, Gilbert Saddig of Terra Haute, Ind.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles E. Saddig.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013, at St. Mary's Church in Norwich. Burial of cremains will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich. There are no calling hours.

Chris, I don't know if you remember us but we used to be next door neighbors when you and your brother were growing up. We were very sorry to hear of his passing.

Christine & the Saddig family,
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Eddie. Him & I had some really great times working on the Block Island Ferry. There was never a dull moment when Ed was around us. He always made us laugh and wasn't afraid to try something new. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
RIP my friend!

When I see the photos of Eddie.... I also see four Saddig men who are no longer with us. George, Charlie, Walt and Bobby. These four men passed along to their children a passion for life. Even though life may have thrown a curveball, I will always remember all of them with an infectious smile. The same one I see in Eddie. I'm saddened to see that a Saddig family member has passed but I know Eddie is being well taken care of. Myself, my wife Lisa and my two sons (Nick and RJ) express our deepest sympathy for the loss of Eddie.

Eddie was part of the family we called "The Manor". Oakdale, CT was and always shall be Eddies home. He was an integral part of our extended families in Oakdale and always will be. We have lost one of our own, and we will always cherish the time we did have with our family member. We all deeply mourn his passing, but Eddie will always be alive in our hearts , prayers and cherished memories. We may not have got along the greatest over the years, but Eddie was ALWAYS a friend. We love and miss you Eddie...farewell and Godspeed old friend. We will be along...keep a seat for us and make sure the drinks are cold.

Ed, I managed to get away and cast a few lines the other day and was thinking about you. I was cussing you for not being there w/me, but welled up remembering all the great times we had when you were. Put in a good word for me up there and save a spot on the bank - I'll bring the beer. I love ya bud

On behalf of the team here at Klemm Tank Lines, we were deeply saddened at Ed's passing almost 18 months ago and still recall his infectious smile and never ending efforts to take care of the customers that he serviced.

Ed was a great associate, co-worker and friend to many. We miss him for many reasons.

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are and were with you, his family, during this very difficult time.

With sympathy,

I am shocked and sad about ed leaving this earth. We had a lot of fun in the past as friends and neighbors. My prayers and condolences go out to the family.
