John Browning Obituary

Ledyard - John Sidney Browning, 71, of Ledyard, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

Born on Dec. 4, 1941, at Crooked Creek, W.Va., he was the son of the late John H. and Sally Browning. John worked for Wyman Gordon as a mold maker for 33 years before his retirement in 2006.

He loved playing his guitar and attending Bluegrass festivals with his many friends. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR racing, Boston Red Sox, NY Giants, UCONN women's basketball and the Connecticut Sun.

He was married to the late Gail (Merritt) Browning for 18 wonderful years.

John is survived by his daughter, Sally Jo Browning of Newport, R.I.; a stepdaughter, Lynn Merritt of Stonington; his sister, Shirley Wright of Warner Robbins, Ga.; brother-in-law, Jerry Merritt of Groton; and longtime close friend and caregiver, Eric Lundberg of Ledyard.

A Celebration of John's life will be held at 1 p.m. May 11, at the residence, 5 Rosemarie Court, Ledyard. Burial will be private.

The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic is assisting the family.

Sorry to hear about John's passing. He was a good friend to Diane and me. He was especially a great friend and buddy to my brother Eric. I know he will be missed by many.
