John Engle Obituary
He was born on March 17, 1951, in New London, the son of the late John C. Engle and Frances Engle Walsh. John was employed for 35 years as a pipefitter at Electric Boat and five years with Local 77 Pipefitters Union.
He was grateful to live close to the shore where he enjoyed all aspects of water activities including boating, line fishing, shell fishing and in the past was a certified scuba diver.
He is survived by his family, Linda Grace and Richard Smith of Groton, Diane and Jim Chidester of Ledyard; nephew, Nathan Grace of Hoboken, N.J.; uncle, Russell Ficarra; and cousins, Michael, Bobby, Tommy and Rusty Ficarra.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, August 11, at 214 Ring Drive, Groton. All friends of John and his family are welcome to join us.
In lieu of flowers, please pass on to someone in need one of his special qualities. A helping hand, a charitable gesture or an act of kindness.

I'm very sorry to hear of your brother John passing away. Having known you guys since you were young from when i worked with your dad at n.l.mills and fished with him i got to know all of you through the years. I know that he will be missed by all.

I worked with John for a number of years in the shipyard we shared many good times together.He was one of the best and will surely be missed but i am sure not forgotten. My thoughts go out to you at this tough time

Diane and Linda,My sympathy to you both.Johnnie was such a wonderful man.I admit that I knew him through my brother Karl and Sister Kim.But he was a sweetheart and my parents loved him too.He always had a smile and a warm kind heart.He will be missed by all who knew him.Karl and he will get together I'm sure and spend lots of times remembering the good old days!! I was privileged to work with John at Electric boat. He was an excellent tradesmen and a go to pipefitter. In life there are certain people you meet that you will always remember. For myself and many others at Electric Boat John will never be forgotten. John and I had many discussions about life, and spending time at Groton town beach as kids. John loved to crab, clam and dig steamers in Groton where he grew up and lived. Today I will sign this guest book entry with a very heavy heart. Rest in peace my friend

I am so stunned by Johnny's passing I want you both to know that you are in my prayers.
Johnny was such a good friend to Karl and for Me He was a great compaion who would share a movie with me, many times we would have late night dinners from his catch for the day rather crab or lobster. He loved his diving and I loved the reward and his company. He was many things to me but most of all a true and honest friend a loving caring person who would stand up for you no matter what. I had the privilege to work with John at Electric boat. There are certain people you meet in life and John was one that I will remember forever. John loved to talk about crabbing and clamming and digging steamers in Groton where he lived and grew up. John will be greatly missed by all of his friends and people that new him.
