Raymond Stanis Obituary

Plainfield - Raymond W. Stanis, 73, of Colonial Road, formerly of Groton, beloved husband of Jean (Murphy) Stanis, passed away early Sunday morning, Dec. 1, 2013, at The William W. Backus Hospital, Norwich.

He was born Oct. 31, 1940, in Jersey City, N.J., a son of the late Vincent and Leonora (Kappel) Stanis. Mr. Stanis had lived in Groton for over 30 years, moving to Plainfield three years ago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from June of 1959 until June of 1979. Mr. Stanis enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Greg Stanis and his wife, Lori, of Plainfield, Vincent Stanis of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Heather Spencer, Nicole Houle, Ryan Stanis; two great-grandchildren, Jaelyn Deschamps and Joseph Houle.

Funeral and burial are private. There are no calling hours.

On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), we offer our sincere condolences to Jean, Greg, and Vincent, and all of Senior Chief Stanis's family and friends in your loss and sorrow. May God whisper peace into your hearts and comfort and heal them. We are grateful for Ray's service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service on the USS Seadragon SSN-584, USS John C. Calhoun SSBN 630, and USS Ray SSN 653. He was a member of the USSVI Groton Base, a Life Member of USSVI and a member of the Holland Club having been qualified in submarines more than 50 years. To our “Brother of the Dolphin” … "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."
