Virginia Kriedel Obituary

East Lyme - Virginia M. "Ginny" Kriedel, 69, died unexpectedly at home in Niantic on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.

She was born June 17, 1944, in Columbia, Tenn., to Hope and Joe Metcalf. She attended Depauw University where she studied romance languages and was active in chorus, theater, and dance. She voiced her biggest regret was not completing her college degree. At University, her musical talent landed her the lead role as Maria in West Side Story.

Ginny was successful in many careers. She worked as a Weight Watchers lecturer, ran a consignment business, and was a supervisor in billing at Consulting Ophthalmologists in Hartford. She became a Justice of the Peace and performed marriage ceremonies for 25 couples, who are all still married today.

Ginny was a generous, optimistic, talented, gregarious, and spiritual woman. She was a devoted wife, mother, and loving grandmother. Ginny strived to live her life to the fullest and touched many hearts along the way.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Edward G. Kriedel; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Erik Nelson of Ridgefield; daughter, Jodi Vilardi and her partner, Jolie Jonte of Plainfield, Vt. She is also survived by stepson, Coen and Rachel Kriedel of West Hartford; grandchildren, Brian, Benjamin, Tanner, Emma, Morgan and Mitchell; many nieces and nephews; and two siblings, Jodie Henjum of Eagan, Minn., and John Metcalf of Prescott, Ariz.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A celebration of her life will begin at 4 p.m.
