Cecil Schwenkner Obituary
Born in Janesville, Wis., he was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Robinson) Schwenkner and was a Ledyard resident for over 30 years.
Cecil served his country in the U.S. Navy as a submariner for over 27 years, serving on the USS Halfbeak, Albacore, John Marshall, Henry L. Stimpson, and the USS Kamehameha. He was a member of the American Legion Groton Post 114 and the Fleet Reserve Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching his favorite teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Boston Red Sox. He worked for the New London Post Office for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
He will be deeply missed by his loving family.
In addition to his wife, he leaves five children, Michael Schwenkner and his wife, Mary, of East Troy, Wis., Dale Schwenkner of Niantic, Larry Schwenkner and his wife, Kari, of Wauwatosa, Wis., Karen Regnere of Danielson, and Suzanne Hebert of Mystic; brother, Leon "Butch" Schwenkner of Janesville, Wis. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, David, Ryan, Matthew, Eric, Corey, Adam, and Morgan; and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie.
He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Schwenkner of Janesville.
His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, 51 Williams Ave., Mystic, immediately followed by a service at 8 p.m. According to his wishes, burial will be private.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Cecil Schwenkner. I worked with "Shorty" for many years at the New London Post Office. Shorty was my excellent Service Window trainer and often saved us from financial errors. He will enjoy his coffee up above.

Mr. Schwenkner was a wonderful man whom I enjoyed helping care for while he resided at Fairview. He always had a pleasant word to say to everyone. He reminded me very much of my father & he will always hold a very special place in my heart. I'm so sorry for your loss.
