Edward Haberek Obituary

Stonington - Edward R. Haberek Sr., 78, beloved husband of Patricia D. (Kent) Haberek, of Moss St., Pawcatuck, passed away at home on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011.

Born in New London, he was a son of the late Frank S. and Helen Haberek. Ed was employed as an x-ray reader for Kaman Aerospace in Moosup for many years until his retirement. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, he was also a member of the Harley P. Chase Post #1265 and a communicant of St. Michael Church. Ed was an accomplished baseball player during his youth. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved spending time with his granddaughters and his dog, Amber.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Stonington First Selectman Edward R. Haberek Jr. and his wife, Maureen, of Pawcatuck; a brother, Frank Haberek and his wife, Nancy, of Florida; and a sister, Barbara Gaioch of Wyoming, R.I. Ed will be also be missed by his two granddaughters, Nicole and Olivia Haberek; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are omitted. Relatives and friends are invited at 10 a.m. Tuesday, to attend a Memorial Mass in St. Michael the Archangel Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Southeastern Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360., St. Michael Church or the Pawcatuck VFW in Ed's name.
