Jacqueline Chadourne Obituary

Waterford - Jacqueline Marie (Soulé) Chadourne died on Monday, March 31, 2014, at Bayview Health Care in Waterford.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1920, in La Rochelle, France. She spent the early part of her life between La Rochelle and Paris until she met Marc Chadourne, a well-known writer (winner of the Prix Femina 1930), who was to become her husband.

It is because of Marc that she came to the United States and joined the French faculty at Connecticut College in 1952. Through the years she became a beloved professor and an active scholar. She was a specialist of 20th century literature, in particular André Gide and Blaise Cendrars, who was the subject of her doctorate thesis: Blaise Cendrars, poète du cosmos (1972).

After her retirement in 1990, Jacqueline lived happily in her home near the sea in Waterford.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Byles-MacDougall Funeral Service is assisting with the arrangements.
