James Trant Obituary

Mystic - James "Jim" Patrick Trant, 87, of Mystic, beloved husband of the late Margaret (Medeiros) Trant, passed away Monday, May 14, 2012, at Pendleton Health & Rehabilitation Center in Mystic.

Born in Mystic, he was the son of the late William and Ellen (Connery) Trant and was a lifelong resident. Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946.

He was a supervisor for the Mystic Post Office, retiring in 1982 after many years of dedicated service. He was an avid reader, especially Tom Clancy novels. Jim was a lifelong member of the VFW Hugo A. Simonelli Post 3263 Mystic, a past commander of the VFW and a member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society.

He is survived by his daughter, Maryellen McConnell and her husband, Alan, of Quaker Hill; many nieces and nephews; and many sister-in-laws, Terry Truss of Ledyard, Veronica Medeiros of Mystic, Catherine Fogerson and Lucille Wolford both of Sacramento, Calif., Kathleen Medeiros of Hope Valley, R.I. and Lois Trant of Mystic.

Jim was predeceased by his siblings, William, Charles, Jerry, Edward and John Trant, Mary Wallace and Margaret Moniz; and a granddaughter, Kendall McConnell.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic. Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial with full military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post 3263, 60 Stonington Road, Mystic, CT 06355.
