Karl Lohr Obituary
He was born Nov. 10, 1948, in New Brunswick, N.J., to Earl E. Lohr and Vera M. Lohr, both now deceased. He was raised in Metuchen, N.J., graduating from Metuchen High School in 1966. He then attended the Passaic School of Drafting and was later employed as a draftsman by the A.C. Compacting Press Company. He enlisted in the Naval Reserves during the Vietnam war and spent two years stationed in Guam on the USS Proteus. Following his tour of duty, he graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was recruited by Electric Boat in Groton, where he worked for 35 years and retired in 2011 in the position of principal engineer.
Prior to his illness, Karl took great pleasure in spending time with his family. He enjoyed boating, fishing, biking and working on cars or anything mechanical.
He is survived by Cynthia F. Lohr, his wife of 24 years; and his beloved daughters, Kara and Kristen, at home. He leaves his sisters, Edith Suydam of Lititiz, Pa. and Kathy J. Lohr, of Lancaster, Pa. He was a devoted brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his friend and brother-in-law, Jack Suydam.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at St. David's Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karl's name to The ECHO Foundation, c/o Laura Stevenson-Flom, Executive Director, 330 Washington St., Suite 220, Norwich, CT 06360.

I am so sorry to hear of Karl's passing. He had suffered illness for a long time and you Cindy, have been the strong and supportive wife and mother. He is at peace now, and God will help you all to cope and move on.

Karl, You were always such a gentleman and a genuinely great guy. From our talks about TPQ (yuck!) to our sharing the most recent Yankee news or info on car brakes. You never turned me down when I came around selling GS cookies or Boy Scout popcorn. I will miss you my friend.
